I have so far successfully convinced everyone to never buy a bird if they ever get serious about getting one!My wish for you when you get stable and on your feet is to rescue one or two back if you decide to take on the big responsibility of being a bird parent again. I always tell everyone who meets my birds and wants to get one (well, now one bird, I used to have 3, my 25 year old cockatiel just passed away 3 weeks ago) to only rescue, never buy.
